Wrestling coach Rocky Shaft has been named a finalist for the National High School Athletic Association Wrestling Coach of the Year.
Selected by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, the professional organization of school coaches and athletic directors (NHSACA), Coach Shaft is one of eight national finalists for the award. The award will be presented on June 27, 2018 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Shaft has been coaching the Rams for 37 years, and has been inducted into the Holt High School Hall of Fame, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall of Fame, in October of 2017.
Shaft has led the Rams to three state championships, 10 state runner-up finishes, 25 top 10 state finishes, 14 regional championships, 23 league championships, and coached 18 individual state champions, 172 state qualifiers, 75 state placers, and 176 league champions.
